Wrexham have opened talks with Sheffield Wednesday over a potential deal for striker Michael Smith, as the Red Dragons search for more reinforcements.
Wrexham opened up their League One campaign in perfect style after back-to-back promotions in the years prior.
They hosted Wycombe Wanderers and despite a nervy end to the game, they won the game 3-2 in front of their highest home crowd since 1980.
With one win already under their belt, they will be looking for more reinforcements in all areas across the pitch to ensure that they can sustain this winning run across the season.
They are reportedly eyeing up another higher-level forward, who other clubs in this league will be very familiar with.
Smith to Wrexham?
According to Football Insider, Wrexham have opened talks with Sheffield Wednesday over a prospective transfer deal for striker Michael Smith, as they look to bolster their striking options.
Smith is a striker who has had great success at the League One level, being a prominent goalscorer for both Rotherham United and Sheffield Wednesday.
He has also had a few solid seasons at the Championship level, but never managed to truly establish himself after taking the step up.
How did he fare last season?
This reigned true in The Owls Championship campaign last season, as he only managed 11 starts under Danny Rohl despite being a huge part of their playoff success the previous season.
Smith is now 32 years old and reaching the tail end of his career, this means that this will likely be a short-term deal for him if he is to make the move to Wrexham this summer.
Is this a good move for Wrexham?
It would be a fantastic signing for the Red Dragons. One of the most experienced goalscorers at this level who is on the market and he adds even more quality to what already is a fantastic group of strikers in North Wales.
Although he is an older statesman in the league now, he scored 21 times with eight assists just two seasons ago. If he can replicate anywhere near this level of performance for Wrexham, he will be a great asset for Phil Parkinson this season.
