The White Sox announced that left-hander Ky Bush was promoted to make his big league debut and start Monday’s series opener against the A’s.

No 40-man move was needed to activate Chicago’s No. 17 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, because there were spots open after the July 30 Trade Deadline. Reliever Dominic Leone was also activated from the 60-day injured list, and right-hander Prelander Berroa and left-hander Sammy Peralta were optioned to Triple-A Charlotte to clear two spots on the active roster.

Chicago White Sox Calling Up Top Pitching Prospect Ky Bush to Make MLB Debut

Bush, 24, joined the White Sox organization alongside catching prospect Edgar Quero (No. 3) ahead of the 2023 Deadline, in the deal that sent Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo López to the Angels. Bush was Los Angeles’ second-round pick in the ’21 Draft out of St. Mary’s College, which is about a half-hour drive from the Coliseum.

There was a vacancy in the White Sox rotation after Drew Thorpe went on the 15-day IL with a right forearm flexor strain on Friday. Bush is Chicago’s fourth rookie starter to debut this season, joining Thorpe, Jonathan Cannon and Nick Nastrini.

Bush began the year with Double-A Birmingham and went 5-3 with a 2.12 ERA across 14 starts, striking out 78 against 32 walks. He was promoted to Charlotte on July 6 and saw mixed results in his first taste of Triple-A, posting a 6.16 ERA in four appearances (two starts).

The White Sox enter the series in Oakland having lost 20 games in a row, one shy of the AL record set by the 1988 Orioles.
