Carolina Panthers Sign Veteran Safety To One-Year Deal

In 2024, the Carolina Panthers went 5-12 and their defense ended the year ranked a woeful 32nd in the league in points against.

The organization’s overall record improved by three wins under first-year head coach Dave Canales and the offense’s overall rank improved as well from 2023.

However, the team’s poor defensive showing is a major cause of concern and another season of porous defense may just cost Canales his job.

So far in the 2025 offseason, Carolina has signed free agents such as linebacker/EDGE rusher Patrick Jones II from Minnesota, safety Tre’Von Moehrig from the Raiders and defensive linemen Tershawn Wharton (a two-time Super Bowl champ with Kansas City) and Bobby Brown III from the Rams.

On Saturday, the Panthers retained a solid piece of their roster by re-signing Nick Scott, per Adam Schefter on X.

Over four seasons, Nick Scott went from special teams contributor to reliable playmaker in Rams' secondary | Free Agent Spotlight

Scott, a safety and special teams demon, was a seventh-round pick in 2019 of the LA Rams and won a world title with the franchise following the 2021 season.

In 2023, he signed with Cincinnati and then joined the Panthers last season.

During the 2024 NFL season, Scott started four games and had 30 combined tackles and two passes defended.

While in college at Penn State, Scott played his freshman year on the offensive side of the ball as a running back.

Then, before his sophomore year, Scott was moved to the defensive secondary and played corner.

By the time his college career ended, he had tallied 114 total tackles, three tackles for loss, two passes defended and three picks for 16 return yards.
