Burnley have offered fellow Championship side Bristol City a swap deal for star striker Tommy Conway who looks to be on his way out of Ashton Gate, according to the latest reports.
The Clarets have had a busy summer transfer window so far as new head coach Scott Parker prepares his squad for a promotion push to the Premier League after being relegated last season. One area that the club need to strengthen is their forward department.
The Lancashire outfit struggled for goals last season. Winger Jacob Bruun Larsen was the side’s top goalscorer when Vincent Kompany was in charge, although the Danish attacker has since returned to Bundesliga club Hoffenheim after his loan deal expired.
Furthermore, it looks as though Dutch striker Wout Weghorst is set to permanently leave Turf Moor before the transfer window ends at the end of the month. It is believed that Turkish side Trabzonspor are keen to sign the former Manchester United loanee, with the striker already penned in for a medical.
Manager Parker has recently admitted that he is willing to work with the 31-year-old in pre-season once he returns from his vacation period, but Weghorst himself is keen to go back to Turkey. As a result, Burnley will need to add some more firepower to the squad before their campaign commences with a trip to Luton Town in less than two weeks.
The latest name on the recruitment department’s list is Bristol City‘s wantaway forward Conway. Having refused to sign a new contract with the Robins, the Scotland international looked to be on his way to Scottish champions Celtic until Middlesbrough recently sprung into the lead, having bid up to £5 million to acquire his signature.
Nevertheless, Burnley are now in the running to sign the 21-year-old but will look to offer a swap deal to Bristol City. According to Bristol Live, the Clarets are willing to let Scott Twine head back to Ashton Gate in exchange for Conway. However, the publication have also reported that City feel as though Conway is worth more than Twine and thus have enquired about also taking defender Luke McNally in a double swoop.
