Birmingham City Star Midfielder In Fresh Injury Update

The South Korean national team have issued a fresh injury update on Birmingham City star Paik Seung-Ho.

The Blues are running away with the League One title, but have been dealt a big blow in a week when they aren’t playing, as midfielder Paik Seung-Ho suffered an injury whilst on international duty with South Korea.

The Birmingham midfielder picked up an injury to his left hamstring on Thursday, when his side faced Oman in their AFC World Cup qualifying match. Paik had to be withdrawn in the first-half, but was able to walk off the pitch before heading to hospital to undergo further evaluation.

The Korea Times have now reported that the South Korean will miss his country’s upcoming fixture against Jordan on Tuesday, along with Paris Saint-Germain’s Lee Kang-in and Al Wasl’s Jeong Seung-hyun. Birmingham Live later confirmed the midfielder is expected to receive further treatment in Korea before returning to Birmingham next week for further evaluation.

Latest update on Paik Seung-Ho injury

The midfield stalwart has been a key cog in Birmingham’s success this season, featuring 40 times in all competitions and forming a formidable partnership with Tomoki Iwata in the engine room.

However, the latest update from Birmingham Live isn’t one that would’ve been hoped for. The 28-year-old will miss Korea’s upcoming fixture against Jordan on Tuesday, which will bring his international campaign to an end.

Paik was able to walk off the pitch on Thursday after sustaining his injury, but was later taken to hospital where he underwent further on Friday. The Blues star is expected to remain in Korea for treatment before heading back to England for further evaluation.

This is another concerning blow for Chris Davies, who has been dealt a big loss in midfield with Taylor Gardner-Hickman sustaining an injury. With a tough run-in and an EFL Trophy final at Wembley coming up, the Blues boss will be hoping his midfielder isn’t sidelined for too long.

Paik’s presence will be a huge miss for Birmingham

As mentioned, Paik has been a hugely influential player for the Blues this season, featuring 40 times in all competitions, helping his side to a cup final and a healthy lead at the top of the League One table.

Being able to retain the South Korean in the summer was a huge coup for Birmingham, as he showcased his brilliance in the Championship last campaign, and has continued to do so this season in the division below.

Paik’s partnership with Iwata has been pivotal to Birmingham’s success this season, as the midfielders have operated well together, bringing the best out of them both. The control the Blues have in the middle of the park is second to none, so Paik’s injury will be a massive worry for Davies.

With the EFL Trophy final just a couple of weeks away, and the League One title not quite wrapped up just yet, the latest update will be on Davies’ mind. However, thanks to the excellent depth the Midlands club has and the reintegration of Marc Leonard, there is plenty of excellent cover for Paik.
