Southampton are always on the lookout for new prospects, and it seems they’re swooping on Hearts’ for one of their emerging starlets.
Southampton are pushing ahead with a deal to sign 16-year-old Hearts starlet Boyd Fraser amid rival interest, according to TEAMtalk.
Southampton are gearing up for the Championship play-offs after securing a fourth-place finish in the table. The Saints mounted an impressive push for automatic promotion during the second half of the season, but will now have to take the longer route back to the Premier League.
Tonda Eckert has received widespread praise for the role he has played in the turnaround at St Mary’s. Despite the Saints not yet knowing the division they’d play in, plans are underway for the summer window.
According to TEAMtalk, Southampton are looking to secure a deal for Hearts wonderkid Boyd Fraser. The Saints can secure a deal for less than £100,000 in compensation.
Premier League sides Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest are also keen. Palace have already secured the signing of Queens Park talent Harris Afzal, ahead of Southampton earlier this year, and the Saints are determined not to let that happen again.
Celtic and Rangers are also keen on the Scottish starlet. However, he reportedly favours a move south of the border, and Southampton hope their first-team pathway will give them an edge.
Southampton’s spell as an exciting Premier League force now feels some time ago, but the club’s commitment to academy development and nurturing young talent remains firmly in place as they aim to climb back to those levels.
While the Saints continue to produce players through their own system, they are also active in recruiting promising youngsters from elsewhere. Fraser could well be the next to join the Southampton ranks.
Managerial faith in academy prospects has already been evident at Southampton, and that experience in youth development should help some of the club’s brightest talents make the step up.
If the move is completed, Fraser could well emerge as one of the names to keep an eye on in the coming years.
A play-off battle awaits for Southampton
Heading into the play-offs, Southampton are viewed by many as strong contenders for promotion to the Premier League.
The Saints have been in outstanding form throughout 2026, remaining unbeaten in the Championship since January 17. Coupled with an impressive FA Cup run, their performances have stood out at a time when each of their play-off rivals has faltered at various stages.
Southampton could be forced to part with several key players if they fail to go up. Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Caspar Jander and Leo Scienza are among those who may attract interest elsewhere.

Southampton’s play-off campaign gets underway away at Middlesbrough this Saturday. Boro ran out 4-0 winners when the sides met at the Riverside back in January.
