Maltby, 21, is facing an uncertain long-term future at Hillsborough as things stand and it remains to be seen whether he will still be with the Owls come the next campaign. He made two appearances under the guidance of Henrik Pedersen during the 2025/26 campaign, both of which came in the league.

Maltby, who is from Chesterfield, was loaned out to Scarborough Athletic back in 2024 to get some experience under his belt and to boost his development. He went on to play 24 matches for the non-league side and found the net on two occasions from the back.
Upon his return to Sheffield Wednesday last year, he forced his way into the first-team set-up. Despite a few injury issues of late, he appears to be highly-rated by his current club.
