Pundit Opens Up On Frank Lampard’s  Coventry City Exit Amid Links To Southampton

Frank Lampard’s future has dominated the headlines since Coventry City were beaten by Sunderland in the Championship play-offs, and now EFL Analysis can reveal how he feels about leaving the CBS Arena.

Lampard was appointed Coventry boss in November after they shockingly sacked Mark Robins. The Sky Blues were in 17th position at the time and so far away from a Championship play-off push.

But the 46-year-old masterminded an incredible rise up the table, winning 16 of his 29 matches to guide Coventry into the top six.

Unfortunately, Sunderland knocked his side out of the play-offs thanks to Dan Ballard’s late winner, leaving Lampard struggling to hold back his emotions at the Stadium of Light.

After working miracles at the CBS Arena, we exclusively shared that Southampton were interested in hiring Lampard, and now, further information has emerged on the manager’s future.

Frank Lampard is happy at Coventry City but would consider Southampton job

Coventry supporters would have been worried about the prospect of Lampard departing to a Championship rival.

Now, in an EFL Analysis exclusive, we can reveal that the Chelsea legend is happy at Coventry and would only consider leaving if there was a better option out there, such as Southampton.

Transfer expert Graeme Bailey told us: “Obviously Will Still’s very much in pole position at Southampton now.

“The thing with Frank Lampard is he wasn’t unhappy at Coventry. So it was just a case of, if there’s a better option out there, it was going to be considered. Southampton’s possibly a better option in terms of everything; in terms of squad and the ability to get to the Premier League.

“He’s more than happy to continue if he’s not being lined up elsewhere. He’s not pushing for every single job or anything. I think it’s just Southampton was a decent opportunity that his people were looking at.”

As we know, Will Still is closing in on the Southampton job after being linked with the Saints for over a month, and that is great news for Coventry fans, as it limits the chances of Lampard leaving.

Lampard could lose one of his key players this summer

A strong summer transfer window and keeping Lampard could be the key ingredients for another promotion push in 2025/26.

Coventry already have the foundations of a top-six team, and they must keep hold of their best players while adding quality in several positions.

Sadly, one player who could leave in the transfer window is Haji Wright, who is wanted by Leicester City and Ipswich Town.

That is according to information from Bailey, who said: “Obviously Haji Wright, we know Ipswich liked him before. I can see Coventry losing players but more so losing them to an Ipswich or Leicester coming down. And I think Haji Wright probably would go to one of those.

“It’s not brain surgery. Both clubs need a new striker. And we know Ipswich were trying to sign Haji Wright in January. So do we think they’ve gone off him? No. He is going to be an option.

“Leicester will probably sign a couple of strikers. They’ve got the money. They’ve come down.”
