Ohio State has landed a transfer pledge from Santa Clara center Christoph Tilly. He announced the move on his Instagram account.
Tilly, a native of Berlin in Germany, spent 3 seasons at Santa Clara where he appeared in 86 games with 59 starts. He earned All-WCC Second Team honors this past season after averaging 12.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 22.7 minutes per game.
The 7-footer becomes the second transfer pledge for Ohio State so far this offseason. He’s a skilled big man, capable of a little bit of everything when on the floor.
Tilly had per-40 averages this past season of 22.0 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.4 blocks. He expanded his game on the offensive end, taking 54 triples and making 17 of them (31.5%) after making just 4 of his 15 attempts from 3 over his first 2 years with the program.
The big man did play against Ohio State once before, in the championship game of the 2023 Emerald Coast Classic. He scored 7 points to go with 2 rebounds in 16 minutes that day.
The Buckeyes went 17-15 in Jake Diebler’s debut season at the helm. They haven’t finished with a winning record in Big Ten play since 2022, though Tilly’s addition will help toward that end. He addresses an obvious need in the frontcourt after Ohio State saw Aaron Bradshaw and Austin Parks both opt for the transfer portal.
