Mixed feelings on Spurs’ Game 3 injury updates for Dylan Harper and De’Aaron Fox

De'Aaron Fox | Guard | San Antonio Spurs | NBA.com

The San Antonio Spurs released their injury report for their Game 3 Western Conference Finals matchup against the Thunder. De’Aaron Fox, who missed Games 1 and 2, is listed as questionable, and Dylan Harper, who left in the second half of Game 2 with a leg injury, is also listed as questionable.

While it’s certainly not ideal for San Antonio to possibly be without Fox and Harper (who started the first two games of the series in place of Fox), it is at least encouraging that the Spurs haven’t already ruled out both, specifically the rookie. Fans worried that he’d hurt his hamstring, an injury that could’ve cost him the rest of the playoffs.

The report didn’t erase all fear, though.

Spurs list De’Aaron Fox and Dylan Harper as questionable for Game 3

San Antonio hoped Harper’s injury wouldn’t mirror what OKC is unfortunately going through with Jalen Williams, who played in the Thunder’s first two games of the first round against the Suns but missed the next six because of a strained hamstring. He returned in Game 1 against the Spurs and played the first half of Game 2 before the team ruled him out for the final two games after he tweaked his hamstring. He’s day-to-day.

You can never be too careful with hamstring injuries, so knowing that Harper is dealing with right adductor soreness is good news, though the preferable outcome would’ve been that he never got hurt in the first place. Maybe San Antonio would be up 2-0 right now, but hey, you can’t dwell too much on the what-ifs.

Hopefully, he will be cleared to play for Game 3, as will Fox. As Mitch Johnson already said, the 28-year-old will remain a game-time decision moving forward after he aggravated his ankle against the Timberwolves. It will be hard for the Spurs to fill the void if both are out.

Are De’Aaron Fox and Dylan Harper playing in Game 3 vs. Thunder?

Along with Fox, Harper could also be a game-time decision. When San Antonio announces each player’s status, that information will be updated here. Tip-off for Game 3 is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT.
