Marseille ‘Submit New Bid’ For Leeds United Target As Transfer Competition Hots Up

Marseille have stepped up their interest in Leeds United transfer target Jonathan Rowe. Daily Telegraph journalist John Percy has today reported that the Ligue 1 side have tabled a third bid for the Norwich City forward.

The French club submitted their latest offer for Rowe over the weekend, according to Percy. Talks are ongoing over a loan deal with an obligation to buy for a fee around £13.5m. Percy states there is an expectation that a deal will be finalised before the transfer window shuts on August 30.

Although Marseille have invested heavily in forwards this summer, bringing in Mason Greenwood and Elye Wahi, Rowe has emerged as a key target. French outlet L’Équipe says the French club lead the race to sign Rowe but face competition from a Serie A club, two Premier League sides and the Whites. Discussions are said to have taken place between the Whites hierarchy and the Canaries over Rowe’s availability but no official bid has been lodged.

Rowe has not featured in any of Norwich’s opening three fixtures. The wide man is currently training with the club’s Under-21s as speculation over his future intensifies.

“It’s been tough for him, and we knew that when we made the decision,” boss Johannes Hoff Thorup told the media last week. “It’s a big fan base at this club, and they were affected by it.

“Jonny was too, and we‘ll support him the best way. He wants to talk to his team-mates, and he will be with us in a meeting soon. Then we will sit down and look at the next steps. You have to surround yourself with people you trust and who can support you. It’s important to think about your behaviour. It’s a difficult business to be on your own.”
