Wigan Athletic boss Ryan Lowe has refused to rule out a move for Stoke City striker Niall Ennis this summer.
Wigan Athletic have been linked with a move for the attacker later this year in a report by Football League World. He is on loan with WAFC’s League One rivals Blackpool at the moment.
Ennis, 25, linked up with the Tangerines on a temporary basis in January. He has since impressed under the guidance of Steve Bruce and has scored six goals in 14 games.
When asked about his links to the Latics, Lowe said, as per a report by Wigan Today: “He would be well known to me…because I revitalised his career! I signed him from Wolves for Plymouth Argyle, and he did fantastic for me and fantastic for them after I left.
“Look, I know Niall very well, he’s a fantastic lad and he’s a goalscorer at this level, definitely. He’s been up and down the Championship, he’s had some opportunities. But I think he’s probably one of many who will be linked, given we obviously have a friendship. He’s contracted to Stoke City for another 12 months I think, but we’re always in the market for good players – and Niall is certainly one of them.”

Stoke City have a decision to make regarding Ennis’ future when he returns from Blackpool. He is under contract with SCFC until June 2026.
They risk losing him for nothing next year if they don’t cash in on him in the upcoming window or next January. He scored one goal in 10 matches for the Potters during the first half of this campaign before his switch to Bloomfield Road.
The Tangerines landed him replace Kyle Joseph, who was sold to Hull City. Ennis is a former England youth international who rose up through the academy at Wolves.
He was a regular for the Midlands outfit at various different youth levels before going on to play once for their first-team. The Wolverhampton-born man was loaned out by the Premier League side to Shrewsbury Town, Doncaster Rovers and Burton Albion to get some experience.
Where would Niall Ennis fit in at Wigan Athletic?
Ennis would give Wigan Athletic more competition and depth up top. He has proved that he can score goals in the third tier.
Plymouth Argyle landed him permanently in 2020 and he was a hit during his time at Home Park, firing 24 goals in 97 matches. That form earned him a switch to Blackburn Rovers but his move to Ewood Park didn’t work out.
Ennis managed to find the net only once in Lancashire and was sold to Stoke City after just seven months. Bruce has been able to get the best out of him now at Blackpool and now Wigan Athletic could try and snap him up next.
