Coventry City have received 60/70/80 applications to be the club’s new head coach and that includes Frank Lampard.
Club owner Doug King, however, insists that: “I have not spoken to Frank Lampard and Frank Lampard has not spoken to me. Make of that what you will.”
That appeared to be a dismissal of the speculation, driven by the bookies who have had the former Chelsea and England star as favourite to take over from Mark Robins, who was sacked last Thursday.
King later said when asked by CoventryLive to clarify the position with Lampard that the club have received his CV, to which he nodded his head. Lampard, however, is not necessarily a head coach, more of a manager with coaches around him so from that perspective, it would seem, doesn’t fit City’s profile.
Asked if the club are being pro-active as well, targeting people you want, he said: “We have a good idea, myself, Dean Austin and Dr Claire-Marie Roberts. I have been doing a lot of things at this football club over the last two years as executive chairman. I have great people around me and hopefully I will make the right call.
“Listen, there’s a lot of interest in this job, believe you me. This is a top, high quality football club with a great squad and a really good set-up at Ryton. We’re an attractive proposition for a head coach.”
