Tom Wagner visited Downing Street yesterday for high-level meetings over Birmingham City’s proposed Sports Quarter.
Wagner’s Knighthead Capital Management intends to build a Sports Quarter in the heart of the Second City comprising a stadium, state-of-the-art training facilities for all Blues’ teams, and entertainment spaces.
This time last year Knighthead announced the purchase of the 48-acre site in east Birmingham formerly known as Birmingham Wheels and their holding in that part of the city now exceeds 60 acres.
Progress has been slower than Wagner would have liked but in his last two visits to Birmingham, Blues’ chairman has held discussions with Government officials about his vision for the city.
On Wednesday Wagner made the trip to No.10 Downing Street alongside West Midlands Mayor Richard Parker to lobby support from Prime Minister Keir Starmer and his Labour Government.
Posting on X, Parker said: “Tom and I want to hit the back of the net with a new Sports Quarter in Birmingham – kick starting growth and investment across the region.
“We went to No10 today to make this multi-billion investment a reality.”
