Atlanta Hawks Adviced To Trade Their No. 1 Overall Pick In 2024 Free Agency

The Atlanta Hawks have a decision to make about De’Andre Hunter’s long-term future, especially after the team used their No. 1 overall pick to get Zaccharie Risacher in this summer’s NBA Draft.

According to Tyler Conway of Bleacher Report, if the Atlanta Hawks do decide to shop the  26-year-old swingman, teams such as the Los Angeles Lakers, Cleveland Cavaliers, and the San Antonio Spurs could be interested in trading for him because of what he brings to the table.

De’Andre Hunter is coming off a decent 2023-24 campaign with the Atlanta Hawks, averaging 15.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.5 assists on 45.9 percent shooting from the field and 38.5 percent from three-point land in 57 regular season games (37 starts).

Atlanta shouldn’t rush to trade De’Andre Hunter after they gave him a four-year, $90 million extension in 2022. Hunter will earn at least $22 million in the next three seasons before becoming an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2027.

The Atlanta Hawks qualified for the play-in tournament after finishing the 2023-24 regular season with a 36-46 record. However, they were eliminated early by the ninth-seeded Chicago Bulls in the first match.

Atlanta Hawks’ offseason moves so far

Other than trading Dejounte Murray to the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for Dyson Daniels, Larry Nance Jr., Cody Zeller, EJ Liddell, and a couple of future first-round picks, Atlanta also signed David Roddy and Vit Krejci to new contracts.

With Murray gone, Trae Young, Jalen Johnson, De’Andre Hunter, and Bogdan Bogdanovic will shoulder a bigger load for Atlanta this upcoming season.

Moreover, the Atlanta Hawks are still looking for a trade partner for Clint Capela, but there have been no notable suitors for the Swiss center lately.
