Trade rumors linking the New Orleans Pelicans and Zion Williamson to a potential swap for Memphis Grizzlies star guard Ja Morant have recently surfaced ahead of the February 5 NBA deadline.

But well-known league insider Marc Stein has debunked the reports: “One source close to the process [said] that there are no discussions between the Pelicans and the Grizzlies on a potential Morant deal … despite persistent speculation to the contrary.”

Morant’s injury history and off-court issues are among the key reasons for the limited trade interest around the league.

The two-time NBA All-Star guard has appeared in just 20 games this season and was famously suspended for one game in November following a clash with head coach Tuomas Iisalo.

Even if Morant stays in Memphis — something he reportedly wants, having pledged his loyalty to the Grizzlies — Stein warned that drama could still unfold.

The ongoing saga, combined with a failed contract extension and tensions with GM Zach Kleiman, could continue to stir tension within the organization.
