The Greater Manchester outfit have enjoyed an excellent rise up the divisions in the last four years which has seen them climb from the National League to League One – and they very nearly made it three before falling short in the play-off semi-final against Leyton Orient.
Manager Dave Challinor has done a stellar job at Edgeley Park since joining from Hartlepool in 2021 and will undoubtedly hope that more is still to come next season. Stockport have so far added centre back Joseph Olowu from Doncaster Rovers to their team along with Peterborough duo Tayo Edun and Malik Mothersille.
Stockport target Haydon Roberts
According to Bristol Live, Stockport hold a real interest in signing Haydon Roberts from Ashton Gate this summer. Roberts joined the Robins from Brighton on a free transfer in 2023 but is now entering the final year of his contract with the club.
The 23-year-old featured 34 times in all competitions for Bristol City in the 2024/25 campaign, operating out of left-back, left wing-back and left centre-back as the club finished inside the play-offs for the first time since 2008.
He started 15 league matches and was brought on from the subs bench a further 15 times. He also started one of the play-off games against Sheffield United and was brought on to try and impact the game in the other.
Roberts’ contract situation may make the transfer affordable to Stockport, with Bristol City potentially accepting a cut-price fee for the 23-year-old rather than letting him go on a free next summer.
