Fabrizio Romano claimed on 24 August that the Saints have agreed a deal to sign the Feyenoord goalkeeper, and only finer details are left to be sorted out.
The Italian journalist has now claimed that the 26-year-old is set to fly to the UK to undergo his medical at Southampton.
Southampton have been trying to sign a new goalkeeper this summer, and they were linked with a move for Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
They could still move to sign the Gunners goalkeeper on loan, but as of now, they are focussing on completing Bijlow’s signing.
This has been a busy transfer window for the Saints and Russell Martin bolstered the squad after they returned to the Premier League. He is looking to find a goalkeeper who can provide competition for Alex McCarthy, and Bijlow is expected to challenge for the number one spot.
Romano wrote on X (25 August): “Justin Bijlow, set to flying to UK today in order to undergo medical at Southampton.”
McCarthy was in goal in the opening game of the Premier League as Southampton lost 1-0.
They suffered yet another defeat in their second game, as they lost 1-0 against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
With Bijlow travelling to the UK, Southampton can expect to complete the signing within the next 48 hours, unless there’s a major problem in medical.
Southampton have added as many as ten new players this summer, and it might take some time to integrate them properly into the side.
The Dutch goalkeeper, who has won seven major trophies with Feyenoord, has managed almost 150 games for the Eredivisie club, and his experience would come in handy for Southampton.
