Wrexham reignite interest in huge Portsmouth favourite after failed £2m January pursuit

Terry Devlin has amassed 35 appearances for Pompey this season but interest in the Fratton talent is re-emerging.

Pompey face a fight to keep Terry Devlin at Fratton Park beyond this season, according to reports.

Wrexham are said to have reignited their interest in the hugely-popular defender amid claims of a failed pursuit in January.

The right-back was believed to be on Phil Parkinson’s transfer shopping list, with the Welsh outfit said to be looking to launch a late £2m bid in the remaining days of the window.

John Mousinho, though, squashed any rumours of a potential exit for Devlin in the winter market, with his stock on the rise after an impressive campaign at Fratton Park.

Wrexham reignite interest in Terry Devlin

However, a fresh report from transfer guru Alan Nixon has suggested the Northern Ireland international remains firmly on the Red Dragons’ radar.

The article states Wrexham will initially look to sign Issa Kabore on a permanent basis from Manchester City in the summer if they were to win promotion to the Premier League following a strong loan stint at the Racecourse Ground.

But should they fail to reach the top flight, Parkinson’s men are believed to have earmarked Devlin as their main transfer target.

The 22-year-old penned a fresh long-term deal in March 2025, with the Blues still holding two-and-a-half years on his current terms.

The talented full-back’s stock has been on the rise this term after establishing himself as a regular fixture in Mousinho’s backline.

Devlin has amassed 35 appearances in all competitions to date, including starts in 24 of their previous 25 matches with his only absence coming due to a one-game ban.

The right-back has been a shining light at PO4 in a difficult campaign on the south-coast, with the Blues currently hovering above the relegation zone.

Terry Devlin on Pompey future after Wrexham January interest

Devlin was the subject of reported links to Wrexham late in the winter window as the Welsh outfit looked to strengthen their backline.

The full-back has totalled 96 outings following his arrival in 2023 and has established himself as a firm favourite amongst the Fratton faithful.

And following the Red Dragons’ rumoured interest, the popular defender made clear of his love for the Blues as his stock continues to rise.

‘There’s nothing I can really do about that (the links), there are people in place to deal with that, it’s nothing to do with me really.

He told The News in February: ‘My full focus is on Pompey and finishing the season strongly. You obviously see things (about transfer links), but my full focus is on Pompey.

‘That’s all I was thinking about, the next game, West Brom and getting ready for the Ipswich game, which was called off. I was fully focused on all of those games and I was ready to go.

‘I am contracted here, so all I can say at the minute is I’m a Pompey player. I absolutely love it here, I love the team, I love the lads, the coaching staff, the fans, the club.

‘I love everything about being here. That shows with my performances, I love battling for the badge – and I think the fans can see that.

‘From what I saw (online) there was Wrexham interest, I don’t know, but there are people in place to deal with that and it’s nothing to do with me.

‘My full focus is on finishing the season strongly and helping us climb the Championship table.’
