Wrexham are expected to spend big this summer in preparation for their first Championship campaign since 1982.

Phil Parkinson hinted at talks with Premier League players as he waits for the season to conclude before making moves to bolster his Wrexham squad.

Steven Fletcher’s Wrexham departure began a flurry of exits from the club to make room in the 25-man Championship squad.

Wrexham may struggle to sell some players due to their wages but owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have assured fans of their plans to be ‘aggressive’ this transfer window.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney reveal Wrexham transfer plan

Speaking on the latest episode of the Rob.Ryan.Red podcast, the Wrexham owners have discussed their plans to once again back the club in the transfer market this summer.

However, Reynolds has warned that they will need to be ‘mindful’ of other plans going ahead surrounding the infrastructure of the Red Dragons.

Reynolds stated: “We’re coming to win, I don’t know I can’t give you dollar figures but I can tell you we are going to be as aggressive as we can possibly be whilst being mindful of sustainability.

“We have a stadium to revamp but still maintain its character and culture, it’s tricky, so lots to think about.”

Rob McElhenney has previously dismissed ‘consolidation’ and the club will be backing Parkinson once again this summer whilst also ensuring plans on the Racecourse Ground are completed.

Phil Parkinson must keep core of Wrexham squad

Whilst there is no doubt that Wrexham need to add quality additions to their squad this summer, it is important for the manager to keep a strong core of current players at the club.

Morale and togetherness have been huge factors in earning the promotions in recent years and Parkinson will need that strength to carry his team through some undoubted difficult moments ahead in the Championship.

Ryan Longman praised Wrexham’s experienced players and the likes of Matty James and James McClean will be vital to keeping their teammates grounded after inevitable victories and defeats next campaign.

Jay Rodriguez is another player with bundles of Championship experience and will be important to help the likes of Sam Smith and Max Cleworth adjust to the jump in quality of the second tier.
