Athletes are often honored with statues that symbolize where they are held in their respective fields. However, the sculptures can either be lifelike or result in a complete disaster, which happened in the case of the Memphis Grizzlies star. With his high hopes, Ja Morant went to see his lookalike statue but was left disappointed.
Morant’s amused reaction was captured in a viral video after he visited a New York City court on Saturday to see his newly unveiled statue.
While the displeased Morant looked at the front details, a fan asked him whether it was him. The 2-time All-Star hilariously responded, “Nah that ugly.”
Notably, this is not the first time a lookalike statue has gone wrong. Many players from different fields have had such experiences, which ultimately led them to become a laughingstock in front of the fans.
Morant might not be happy about his statue, but he is certainly excited about returning to the hardwood after missing massive chunks of games.
Ja Morant Injury Update
Ja Morant is a deciding factor for the Grizzlies. Just like his presence can positively impact their games, his absence can cost them a great deal. This was quite evident in the 2023-2024 season following the 24-year-old’s exit due to a shoulder injury. However, the star has provided some updates on his health condition, raising fans’ hopes.
Morant took to X (FKA Twitter) to share the three-word positive message, “it’s GO t:me” hinting at his comeback in the upcoming season.
After appearing in nine games for the Grizzlies last season, Morant operated on his right shoulder, which had a labral tear. This caused him to miss the rest of the season.
In his absence, the franchise finished in the 13th spot in the Western Conference table, just above the Spurs and Trail Blazers. But Morant’s return in the next season would be a silver lining for both the Grizzlies and their fan base.
