Swindon Town have secured the signature of midfielder James Ball, who departs promoted AFC Wimbledon.
Ball appeared 36 times for the south London outfit this season, being named on the bench for their play-off final triumph over Walsall at Wembley.
The midfielder began his career as a youth with Bolton Wanderers and at Stockport County. His senior-level clubs have included the likes of Stevenage, Solihull Moors and Rochdale.
He was most recently at AFC Wimbledon, joining from Rochdale on a free transfer. He contributed to what turned out to be a major success, as the club earned promotion to League One in the aforementioned play-off final.
However, Ball did not make the step up to the next tier of English football, instead opting for a move to Swindon Town, who finished in a solid twelfth place in League Two in the 2024–25 season.
James Ball spoke to Swindon’s media team with an air of enthusiasm: “I’m buzzing to join a club with the ambition and fanbase of Swindon Town. I can’t wait to get started, meet the lads, and get out on the pitch to show what I can do. I’m here to help the team push up the table and fight for promotion.
“I had a phone call with the Manager last week, and he sold Swindon to me. He told me about his ambitions for the club this season and the project for the future, and I could see the improvement when he took over last season and his influence was massive.
“If we look at Swindon in terms of form and how they performed at the back end of last season, then there’s no better place to be.”
