Stoke City Boss Mark Robins Wants A Reunion With 26-Year-Old In January Transfer

Stoke City have joined Blackburn Rovers in pursuit of Coventry City striker Brandon Thomas-Asante, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke on X.

Stoke City are interested in luring the attacker to Staffordshire this winter. SCFC have until the end of the January transfer window to conclude any bits of business.

Thomas-Asante, 26, only joined Coventry City last summer but he has struggled to make an impact. He has scored three goals in 29 games in all competitions so far this season, only one of which has come in the Championship.

In this latest update regarding his future with the Sky Blues, reporter O’Rourke has claimed on X that the Potters are now keen on landing him this month along with fellow second tier outfit Blackburn Rovers.

Mark Robins knows all about the player having signed him for Coventry City and the pair are now being linked with a reunion at the Bet365 Stadium.

Stoke City could see Thomas-Asante as someone to boost their striking department.

He would give them something different up top if they were able to snap him up.

His switch to Coventry City hasn’t gone to plan yet and he has struggled to find his shooting boots.

They hijacked his proposed switch to Hull City in the last window to get him.

Robins said at the time, as per BBC Sport: “Brandon is a powerful and pacy striker who has goalscoring pedigree at this level plus a great attitude and work-rate. He can play across the front line and will further strengthen our attacking options.”

Thomas-Asante left West Brom to join the Sky Blues and he was the Baggies’ top scorer in the last campaign, scoring 12 goals.

The Ghana international, who has one cap under his belt, joined the Midlands outfit in 2022 and scored nine goals in his first year at The Hawthorns.

He has also played for the likes of MK Dons and Salford City in the past.

What now?

It hasn’t worked out for Thomas-Asante at Coventry City and a change of scene may do him good.

Frank Lampard has a big decision to make about whether to keep hold of him or let him go.

Stoke City are in the frame for his signature but may have to see off competition from Blackburn Rovers if they are to sign him.

The Potters play West Brom away this weekend.
