Sky Blues Owner Doug King Sets Out Plan To Drive Club Forward Amid £6m-£7m Losses

Doug King is hopeful that his new “executive team” will help control Coventry City’s finances and drive the club forward as it continues to lose £6m-£7m a year.

The Sky Blues owner continues to “cover” those losses but is keen to increase the club’s commercial revenues with more sponsorship partners.

Speaking to fan group representatives at the latest Coventry City Supporters’ Forum Meeting, the executive chairman introduced his latest off-field appointments – Chief Business Officer, Nicola Ibbetson from European Champions PSG, and Chief Operations Officer, Paul Tyrrell, from Nottingham Forest – both of whom previously worked together at Aston Villa.

Revealed in the minutes of the meeting, King spoke about the experience and qualities that they will bring to the club, “ensuring that the club has an Executive Team in place to drive it forward off the field.”

King said that Ibbetson will be focused on commercial revenues and that Tyrrell will focus on operations, “ensuring costs at the club are controlled” at a time when the football club “continues to lose £6m-£7m annually, which is covered by the owner.”

He continued that the club wants to “grow its commercial revenues” and that following the sponsorship with Monzo, which has been “really successful for both parties,” the club wants to increase its range of partners further.

Tyrrell, meanwhile, posted on Linked-In: “Owner Doug King has transformed Coventry City since he purchased the club two years ago and has an ambitious development strategy. I am looking forward to helping him and all the staff deliver it.

“I am also excited to be able to work with Nicola Ibbotsen again – a trusted and extraordinary talented colleague from my days at Aston Villa. Nicola has joined Coventry City as Chief Business Officer following a successful spell at the European Champions PSG.”
