The Owls are set for a relatively quiet summer Deadline Day after Danny Rohl side managed to get the large majority of their business done earlier in the summer.
Sheffield Wednesday have made 11 signings this summer, with Shea Charles being the most recent arrival for Rohl’s side.
It is clear that attackers have been prioritised this summer, with the likes of Jamal Lowe and Ike Ugbo notably joining up with the Owls, as did winger Olaf Kobacki.
It could be argued that Sheffield Wednesday could have made more significant progress in the hunt for wingers, and one player they were previously linked with has made a Deadline Day move to League One.
Former Sheffield Wednesday target Scott Wright joins League One side Birmingham City
The Owls were previously linked with Rangers winger Scott Wright, with Sheffield Wednesday at one point reportedly set to sign the attacker ‘in the next 48 hours’.
However, all talk went quiet on a deal for the Scottish international, with League One outfit Birmingham City making a surprise move for the winger that has previously played both Champions League and Europa League football.
Both Derby County and Preston North End were also linked with the 27-year-old, however he has opted for a move to League One after the signing was confirmed early on Deadline Day.
Do Sheffield Wednesday need to bring in depth this Deadline Day
After all talk going quiet previously on a deal to sign Wright, it could be suggested that Rohl is relatively happy with his wide depth for the 2024/25 campaign, of which also consists of the likes of Djeidi Gassama and Anthony Musaba.
Whilst the wide pair are certainly of Championship quality and the ability to play at this level is evident, depth is arguably weak in this position, and there would be no surprises to see this highlighted late on in the window for Sheffield Wednesday.
An extra winger and a centre-back would top off what would be a perfect summer window for the Owls, and whilst Sheffield Wednesday weren’t recently linked to Wright, it provides a wake-up call that an extra winger could be crucial this window.
