Sheffield Wednesday forward targets World Cup dream after international recall

Sheffield Wednesday attacker, Jamal Lowe, will be hoping to help Jamaica reach the World Cup finals after earning a recall into the side this month.

Lowe has played nine times for the Reggae Boyz, scoring twice, but it’s been 18 months since his last outing at international level. Now, with the World Cup play-offs coming up this month, the 31-year-old has been handed a chance to make his mark on the global stage once again as Rudolph Speid named him in his squad to face New Caledonia on March 26th.

The interim Jamaica boss spoke of his selections for this camp being ‘data-driven’, and the Wednesday attacker will be eager to add to his tally for his nation after getting on the scoresheet for the Owls against Hull City over the weekend.

“It was not an emotional pick,” Speid explained, as quoted by The Gleaner. “They were all data driven. And we tried our best to select the right persons.hese games are high-intensity games and they are not for development. They are win-or-die games. So as you know, we have our coming on assignment March 26…

“Every coach is different. That doesn’t mean what that coach [before] was doing was wrong. It’s just the way we see with this new team, that’s the way we need to operate,” he explained. So what we have done is to take out a lot of the subjectivity out of who gets picked, and actually go with the raw data and the people who are performing.”

Should Jamaica beat New Caledonia then they will face the Democratic Republic of Congo on March 31st in Zapopan for a spot at the WC showpiece this summer.
