Sheffield Wednesday Demand £10m For Their Inform 21-Year-Old Forward

Sheffield Wednesday have been seeing some excellent individual seasons from a plethora of their young players as Danny Rohl looks to mastermind a top-six finish in the Championship.

The Owls have a nicely balanced squad when it comes to age range and experience across the team.

There are proven veterans such as Michael Smith, Josh Windass, Barry Bannan and Marvin Johnson, as well as a bunch of exciting younger players such as James Beadle, Shea Charles, Ibrahim Cisssoko and Di’Shon Bernard.

This balance combined with effective tactics from 35-year-old boss Rohl, have seen Wednesday enjoy an excellent season so far, as they find themselves still firmly in the mix for a play-off spot heading into the final stretch of the season.

“Can light up a game” – Sheffield Wednesday told who their most prized asset is in Danny Rohl’s team

But who is the club’s most prized asset right now, and what sort of price tag might they potentially carry? We asked our Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit, Patrick McKenna, to find out.

Answering the first part of that question, McKenna said: “In regards to the club’s most prized asset right now, on the pitch, it still has to be Djeidi Gassama.

“This season he has really improved as a player. He’s shown what he can do, he’s brought a real consistency to his game, and it seems that every game now he is causing issues for the opposition with his pace, direct running, ability to jink past a player, his shooting and his passing is improving as well.

“So, I think he is definitely putting himself in the shop window. There have been players like him, these pacey, sort of old school wingers who, in the age of very tactical football where you have a lot of passing, taking on from the likes of Guardiola, I think he is a bit of a throwback.

“When your team is struggling in a game to cut through, he’s the sort of guy that can just light up a game. So, I certainly think this season he’s shown that he has the ability to play at a higher level. Certainly you’d think he’d be on the radar of top-end Championship clubs, and possibly some Premier League clubs as well.

“£10m” – Sheffield Wednesday told to slap eight-figure fee on Djeidi Gassama

Responding to the second part of our question regarding potential price tags, McKenna said on Gassama: “So in this case, we really have to make sure that if he is to go, we get the absolute most we can. There is no reason why we shouldn’t be saying, ‘if you want him, you can have him, but we want £10m for him’.

“With today’s transfer market and the inflated fees, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t put that sort of price tag on his head. It would be great if we could have him as an example of a player who we brought in on the cheap and made a profit on.

“That’s something that we haven’t done as a club, so someone like Gassama could be our chance to finally get into this way of operating as a club.”

Gassama has certainly been establishing himself as one of the Championship’s most promising young players in recent times, as the Paris Saint Germain academy graduate has become a real do-it-all player in the Sheffield Wednesday team.

However, he is only contracted at Hillsborough until the summer of 2026, meaning the longer he goes without a contract extension, the lower his transfer value will surely fall.

As such, Wednesday should not only tie him down long-term because of how important he is to the team on the pitch, but also to preserve their chances of getting a big payday if and when the time comes to cash in on the Frenchman.
