Roosters winger Mark Nawaqanitawase hasn’t ruled out a return to rugby union in time for the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
Nawaqanitawase is contracted to the Roosters until the end of the 2026 season on a $500,000 a season deal, but if he were to return to the 15-man code in 2027, he would have enough time to impress Wallaby selectors before the showpiece event, to be held in Australia in October that year.
According to reports, the Roosters are keen to offer the 24-year-old a new deal, but discussions have been put on hold until the end of this season.
“The next 18 months are locked in, but I’m really not sure after that,” Nawaqanitawase told The Sydney Morning Herald.
“Absolutely though, that world cup is there, and it is on home soil. That’s why I signed for two years in the first place and that is something I will have to consider.”
Nawaqanitawase already has 11 caps for the Wallabies.
He scored a double in the Roosters’ 42-8 win over the Cowboys on Sunday at Allianz Stadium.
Nawaqanitawase has a total of 11 tries from his 12 games thus far in 2025.
One of those was a stunning solo effort against the Bulldogs back in Round 11.
Nawaqanitawase incredibly put in a chip and chase when he was extremely close to the sideline, and somehow regathered and scored in the corner without him, or the ball, going into touch.
The try has gained over 70 million views on social media.
