Rhys Carr Opens Up On Coventry City Managerial Position Amid Doug King Decision

Rhys Carr is again awaiting further instructions from Doug King as the appointment of Mark Robins’ successor rumbles on at Coventry City.

The interim Sky Blues boss was due to speak to the owner after Tuesday night’s 2-0 defeat at Burnley to see if he’s required to continue coaching and preparing the team for the weekend.

Asked if he is any clearer as to what’s happening with the appointment and his own acting role, the City coach said: “Similar to Saturday really, and I am sure I will have another conversation after today’s game. The ‘day by day’ line is the same, so if we end up going into the Cardiff City game then we will prepare again, look at their strengths and their weaknesses and how we can hurt them and defend against them as well. And we’ll approach the game the best way we can.”

The players were off today (Weds) and due back at Ryton for training on Thursday morning.

Asked if he’s enjoyed his spell in charge so far, Carr said: “Someone asked me that the other day and because of the way the lads have applied themselves and the levels of commitment they are showing to the club and he team, that has made me proud and that’s a credit to the players and the team. Two points from the three games – do we want more? Yes, one hundred percent we do. But do I see a group that is committed and talented that I think will go forwards and move up the league? Yes, absolutely again. So it’s a credit to the players.”

It’s been an incredibly tough run, playing three of the top four teams in the division.

“Yes, of course,” he agreed, “but that’s why you get into football. We want to test ourselves against the best teams and when we come up on the wrong side of it like we have tonight then we learn from it and try to be better for it. So that’s where we are with that.”

As for his own future and whether he’s hoping to be part of the club’s plans moving forward beyond the new appointment, Carr was keen to put the club before himself, saying: “Yeah, whatever is the right decision for Coventry City is the right thing to do. I said the other week that it’s a club where I have only been for a short period of time and I really care about it, I really do.

“It’s a fantastic club with some fantastic people, the staff are excellent and the players are a really, really good group. And whatever the right decision is then I am just happy for the football club.”
