The Boston Red Sox made a slew of moves on Monday, including designating right-handed reliever Brad Keller for assignment.
Now, after clearing waivers, Keller has opted to become a free agent rather than play for Triple-A Worcester.
He was recalled last week and pitched four innings out of the bullpen in Saturday’s 5-4 loss to the Houston Astros, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks.
In total, he threw 20 2/3 innings for the Red Sox over 10 outings and posted a 5.66 ERA and a 1.500 WHIP while striking out 17 batters.
