Reasons Emerge Why Swindon Town Move For Loan Youngster Fall Through

Coventry City youngster Ryan Howley saw a loan move to Swindon Town fall through over the summer due to the Robins having ‘priorities’ in other areas of the pitch, as detailed in a report by CoventryLive.

Coventry City ended up sending the attacking midfielder up to Scotland on a temporary basis to link up with Ayr United to help him get some experience under his belt. He is due to spend the whole campaign in the Scottish Championship.

Howley, 20, has made five appearances for The Honest Men in all competitions, four of which have come in the league. They are managed by former Fleetwood Town boss Scott Brown and are eyeing promotion to the Scottish Premiership.

According to CoventryLive, Swindon Town wanted him down in League Two but needed to bring in other players in different positions first and foremost. Nothing materialised in the end though for the Robins and that opened the door for the player to move up the border instead.

Howley would have given Swindon Town more competition and depth in their ranks. It wasn’t to be though.

He has been on the books at Coventry City for his whole career to date and has risen up through their academy ranks.

The prospect has been a regular for the Sky Blues at various different youth levels over recent years.

Howley penned his first professional contract back in 2020 and made his senior debut a year later in a Carabao Cup clash against Northampton Town.

He has since played seven more times for Mark Robins’ side.

The Wales youth international was loaned out for the first time last year when Dundee came calling.

Howley went on to make 14 outings for the Dens Park outfit altogether before heading back to the Coventry Building Society Arena.
