Trabzonspor President Ertuğrul Doğan has declared that the club cannot pay €15m , equivalent to N27.4b for 30-year-old Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu.
The Turkish Super Lig outfit want to sign Onuachu on a permanent deal after he impressed during his loan stint last season, finishing as the club’s top scorer and propelling them to a third-placed finish in Süper Lig.
However, they have been unable to match Southampton’s valuation of the lanky striker despite the English side deeming him surplus to requirements.
As revealed by Doğan, the Black Sea Storm have only offered the Saints €8m plus bonuses for the Nigerian striker but have had their bid rejected and they are not ready to increase their bid considering his age.
Despite the state of negotiation, the Trabzonspor chief executive is still hopeful that they can strike a deal before the closure of the Turkish transfer window,” he told Tivibu Spor via NTVSpor..
“Onuachu was a player who played for us on loan last season. His club insistently demands around 15 million euros. We offered 8 million euros with bonuses.
“Trabzonspor cannot give 15 million euros to a football player right now. A player is 20-22 years old, it is our coach’s request, then it will be considered
“However, Trabzonspor cannot make such an offer to a 30-year-old player. The last 2-3 days. The situation is clear. We will wait and see.”
The seven-time Süper Lig champions have missed the services of Onuachu, having started the season terribly, failing to score in their opening league games and couldn’t secure qualification for the group stage of either the UEFA Europa League or the Conference League.
This led to the departure of Abdullah Avci, who has been at the club since 2020, and the Turkish tactician has now been replaced by Şenol Güneş.
