Notts County Eyes Return For 27-Year-Old Against Salford City

Notts County boss Stuart Maynard has said Alex Bass has ‘got a chance’ of returning against Salford City.

Notts County are back in action this evening with a home clash against the Ammies. They lost 1-0 away at Colchester United last time out.

Bass, 27, has been out injured recently but is making good progress as he looks to get back out on the pitch. He has made 38 appearances in all competitions so far this season, 36 of which have come in the league, and he has kept 13 clean sheets.

In this latest selection update, Maynard has said, as per their official club media: “Alex is on track, he’s back on the grass and he’s got a chance. It’s not even week by week with Bassy now, we’ve just got to go day by day. He’s doing really well and each day we tick off, he gets closer to coming back.”

Notts County injury latest regarding Alex Bass

Getting Bass back will be a big boost for Notts County as they eye promotion to League One.

They are sat in 6th place in the League Two table and are six points inside the top seven and four points off the top three.

The Magpies are inside the play-offs right now along with Doncaster Rovers, AFC Wimbledon and Grimsby Town as the likes of Colchester United and Crewe Alexandra chase them down.

Bass made the switch to Meadow Lane last summer and has since made the number one spot his own.

Following his transfer, he said at the time, as per BBC Sport: “This opportunity came up where I couldn’t really say no. I’m at the age now where I’m not really bothered where I am, I just want to go out and play and find a settled home and, hopefully, that brings the best of out of you.”

The Eastleigh-born man rose up through the academy ranks at Portsmouth and played 41 matches for their first-team, as well as having loan spells at Salisbury, Torquay United, Southend United and Bradford City.

He then spent two years at Sunderland and was loaned out by the Black Cats to AFC Wimbledon.

What now for Notts County?

Despite their defeat to Colchester United, Notts County remain in a strong position.

Their upcoming opponents Salford City don’t have too much to play for now so it is a good opportunity for Maynard’s men to get three points.
