Norwich City now eyeing move “superb” English striker from EFL League One club who’s in red hot form

Wigan Athletic sign Huddersfield Town striker Joe Taylor on loan - BBC Sport

Norwich City want to bring in a new centre-forward this summer, and they have identified a target who has been in very impressive form in recent weeks.

Norwich eyeing new striker to replace Sargent

Josh Sargent ultimately ended up joining Toronto FC after the English transfer window came to a close, but he was criticised for the way in which he went about getting the move to the MLS by compatriot Brad Friedel.

Friedel said: “I would say this, Josh is a lovely guy, a really nice guy. I don’t think as a player you should ever say you are not playing. That’s bad. I don’t know if he was advised to do it or if he did it on his own. Bad decision. Never do that.

“I understand why he has done it. I understand what his end goal is trying to be. But just like I disagreed with how Isak went about his business in the summer, I disagree with telling a club you are not playing. If they put you on the team sheet, you play. It’s pretty simple stuff for me.”

Although the Canaries haven’t called upon Sargent, they have managed to fly up the Championship table in recent weeks, having won five of their last six league matches.

It may be too little too late, as Philippe Clement’s side are nine points adrift of the play-offs, with just seven games left to play, but their recent form certainly bodes well ahead of next season.

However, the Championship play-off chasers remain keen on bringing in a new centre-forward, and they have set their sights on a League One star…

Norwich eyeing move for striker who’s in red-hot form

According to a report from Sports Boom, Norwich are now eyeing a move for Huddersfield Town striker Joe Taylor, who is currently on loan at Wigan Athletic, where he is in red-hot form, scoring three goals in his last three League One matches.

The Terriers are open to offers for Taylor this summer, and there are plenty of interested parties, with Preston North End and Oxford United also named as potential suitors.

Kasper Hogh has been the Canaries’ top striker target, but Bodo/Glimt are now set to hold out for a higher fee, off the back of his impressive performances in the Champions League.

Jovon Makama has regularly been on the scoresheet this season, netting 13 goals in 31 matches in all competitions, but the Wigan loanee has been even more prolific, receiving high praise from journalist Pete O’Rourke courtesy of the impact he’s made since January.

The 23-year-old has outscored Makama this season, having found the net on 16 occasions, and he has impressed throughout his time in the EFL, scoring 12 goals in 27 matches for Colchester United, and ten in 19 outings for Lincoln City.

Taylor could now be ready to test himself at a higher level, and following Sargent’s post-window departure, Norwich need to bring in a striker this summer.
