Liam Gibbs Talks Johannes Hoff Thorup’s Expertise At Norwich City

Johannes Hoff Thorup’s expertise are already bearing fruit at Norwich City, according to Canaries midfielder Liam Gibbs.

City brought Thorup to Carrow Road in May after David Wagner’s sacking, pinpointing his attractive style of play and ability to develop young players.

He’s seen a mixed start to life at Norwich, claiming five points from their opening four Championship games amid a flurry of late transfer activity.

Academy graduate Gibbs believes players like him have begun to feel the benefits of the Dane’s methods, however, saying he’s lived up to the billing since moving to England.

“The manager’s been great,” the 21-year-old told the Pink Un. “He’s got a lot of new ideas and we’re all adapting to that and trying to turn it into a performance on the pitch rather than on the training pitch.

“We’ve been growing and getting better and better each game. I feel like over time we’re only going to keep improving, and we’ll be up there.”

Part of the change for Gibbs has been in his own role, deployed in a more familiar midfield position by Thorup than the attacking one Wagner preferred.

The former Ipswich Town prospect has played down any suggestion he’ll need to adapt, however, with the former’s system meaning he’s found all over the pitch.

“This manager just wants people to want the ball and to play football in the way that he sees the game played,” Gibbs continued. “There’s a lot of movement and a lot of positions on the pitch that are covered.

“But if we’re moving the ball quickly, one and two touch, then we’re all interchanging with each other. You end up in different areas of the pitch naturally anyway, so I don’t think I’m playing out of position or in a different role.

“I’ve got to work with the coaches, because different managers want different things from you as a player. It’s about fine-tuning your game to the way that they want it played

“It’s mainly about working with the coaching staff here and getting the best out of me. That’s what I’m looking to do: be the best version of myself.”
