Leeds United Transfer Hunt Takes New Twist With Marseille ‘Set To Agree’ £8m Deal For City Forward

Leeds United transfer target Jonathan Rowe is closing in on an £8m switch to Marseille, according to reports. A report in The Sun today has suggested the Norwich City forward is set to become Roberto De Zerbi’s next signing at the French club.

The Whites are targeting reinforcements in the wide areas after selling Crysencio Summerville to West Ham United and have been in discussions with the Canaries over a potential deal for Rowe. It had previously been reported in the national media that the Whites were prepared to submit a £7m bid for the talented attacker but that did not meet City’s valuation of the player. A fresh update then implied United would increase increase that offer but wanted to pay less than £10m for Rowe.

England Under-21 international Rowe is in the final year of his Norwich deal. He played an integral role in their promotion charge last term, scoring 12 goals in 32 appearances.

But it now appears that the Whites could miss out on Rowe and may have to turn their attentions elsewhere in search of reinforcements, with Marseille reportedly set to win the race for his signature. Speaking at his press briefing yesterday, City head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup praised Rowe and his Canaries teammate Adam Idah’s attitude and application despite the speculation surrounding their futures.

“These guys, they train with the group, and they are important players for the group,” said Thorup. “We have to respect that the that the window is still open so many things can happen. We cannot affect what will happen.

“We cannot affect whether there will be an offer from a club here or there. That’s also what I tell the players on a daily basis. Fortunately, they are they’re doing well. They’re performing well. They’re training well and I will also say that their heads are ready to perform.”
