Blues defender Axel Tuanzebe’s hand injury was reportedly the result of a kitchen accident which could have seen him lose his thumb.
At the weekend, manager Kieran McKenna revealed that the DR Congo international had undergone hand surgery after “a very unfortunate accident” which will keep him out of action for a so-far unspecified period.
According to the Daily Mail, the former Manchester United man was washing up and broke a glass, shards of which which lacerated his his hand, leading to fears he could lose his thumb. However, those concerns were allayed after surgery.
Speaking after the 4-1 defeat at West Ham, McKenna said: “He’s going to be out a little while, so we’re going to have to adjust and regroup as a team.
“He’s done a hand injury, a very unfortunate accident. He’s had a surgery and he’ll be out for a while.
“To be honest, we don’t know [precisely how long], it’s not going to be a couple of weeks, it’s probably going to be longer but we’re still in discussion with the specialist about what’s the quickest return.”
