Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna has said Leif Davis will be assessed ahead of their crucial upcoming clash against Southampton.

Ipswich Town are back in action on Tuesday night with an away trip to St Mary’s to lock horns with the Saints. ITFC will be essentially promoted to the Premier League if they win in Hampshire due to their superior goal difference on the teams in and around them.

Davis, 26, has missed the last two matches for the Tractor Boys against Charlton Athletic and West Brom due to a hamstring injury. McKenna’s side drew 0-0 against the latter at The Hawthorns last time out and weren’t able to find a winner in the Midlands.

In this latest update regarding Davis’ condition, McKenna has said, as per a report by TWTD: “Not yet, we’ll see this morning. He hasn’t trained with the group yet, he’s made some progress so he’s being assessed this morning and we’ll take it from there. Other than that, everyone in the group is training. Conor Townsend is involved with the training a little bit now, but everyone else is available for the game, so we’re in a good spot.”

Ipswich Town are sat in 2nd in the table behind Coventry City with two fixtures left to play. Millwall, Southampton and Middlesbrough are chasing them down.

Ipswich Town will be hoping that Davis is fit to feature against Southampton. ITFC can’t take any risks with him though to avoid making anything worse.

The full-back is a crucial member of the Tractor Boys squad. He has been a great servant to the club since his move back in 2022.

Davis, who is from Newcastle, has made 159 appearances in all competitions for the Suffolk outfit and he has chipped in with eight goals and a whopping 43 assists. He is under contract with his current team until the summer of 2029 meaning he still has three years left to run down.

The ex-Leeds United man played 14 times for the Whites’ first-team during his time at Elland Road. He was also loaned out to AFC Bournemouth by the Yorkshire side.

The Tractor Boys will be slightly disappointed that they weren’t able to find a winner against West Brom. The pressure is on them with Millwall, Southampton and Middlesbrough breathing down their neck.

Their fate is in their own hands though and if they can pick up three points in their upcoming game, they will be all but up. They take on QPR on the final day at home this weekend and the Hoops have lost their last three on the spin and have nothing to play for.
