Gold Coast Titans’ director of football Scott Sattler official statement as he begins new chapter for the club

There was no mistaking the energy at Parkwood on Friday morning as Scott Sattler officially began his new role as the Gold Coast Titans’ director of football.

For Sattler, it’s a homecoming filled with pride and purpose and a chance to help shape a bright new chapter for the club he’s always held close to his heart.

“It’s a big job, but it’s an exciting one,” Sattler told titans.com.au.

“There’s a lot of potential here – in the players, the people and the community and I’m looking forward to helping bring that all together.”

Returning home

Having grown up on the Coast and played his junior footy locally at Runaway Bay, Sattler’s connection to the region runs deep.

He was part of the Titans’ original football department when the club entered the NRL in 2007, and now returns with fresh perspective and valuable experience gained across multiple roles in the game.

“The Gold Coast means a lot to me,” he said.

“This club represents such a passionate community, and my goal is to make sure that connection is stronger than ever so that when people see the Titans logo, they feel like it’s theirs.”

Sattler spoke about building alignment across all levels of the organisation — from pathways to recruitment and player welfare, ensuring that everyone involved in the Titans program feels part of one united football family.

A career built on hard work

Before moving into leadership roles off the field, Sattler enjoyed a decorated 203-game NRL career across the Gold Coast Seagulls, Eastern Suburbs, South Queensland Crushers, Penrith Panthers and Wests Tigers.

A renowned competitor and leader, his legacy was cemented in 2003 when he produced one of rugby league’s most iconic moments – the famous grand final tackle on Todd Byrne that helped deliver Penrith the premiership.

That same toughness and team-first attitude have become trademarks of his approach to football operations.

“I’ve always believed in doing the little things right – effort, discipline, pride in the jersey,” he said.

“That’s the standard we want to help set here.”

Building for the future

Sattler joins a refreshed Titans football structure led by incoming head coach Josh Hannay, alongside Anthony Laffranchi as head of recruitment and pathways.

He says he’s eager to collaborate with the group and build a culture that thrives on accountability, respect and belief.

“We’ve got the right people in place and a clear vision for where we want to go,” Sattler said.

“Now it’s about hard work, connection and creating an environment where players love being part of the Gold Coast Titans.”

Day one of a new beginning

While there’s plenty of work ahead, Sattler’s enthusiasm is infectious.

His first day has been about listening and connecting with staff.

“I’m honoured to be back,” he said.

“This club has everything it needs to be successful and we just have to bring that energy together.

“I can’t wait to get to work.”
