EFL pundit Don Goodman has weighed in on Derby County’s interest in Danny Batth and Andi Weimann.
The experienced duo are out of contract at Rovers this summer but have both been offered fresh terms to remain at Ewood Park.
Batth was an important figure in the backline this season as Rovers narrowly missed out on the play-offs, forming an effective partnership with Dom Hyam while Hayden Carter was out injured.
Weimann also made some important contributions, scoring nine goals before his campaign was cut short by injury.
John Eustace was instrumental in signing the pair at Rovers and is now preparing for his first full season at Pride Park after keeping Derby in the Championship.
“I think the Derby County recruitment is going to be absolutely fascinating this summer,” former West Brom and Wolves striker Goodman told Football League World.
“I know Andy Weimann and Danny Batth are two players that John Eustace knows well from his time at Blackburn Rovers.
“I guess really you’d have to ask yourself if you’re a Derby County fan – with respect to those two players, who are well in their 30s – would they be signings that excite you?
“I’m not totally sure, to be honest. Last year, Derby’s remit [was to stay] in the Championship and they did it.
“If their remit is to survive in the Championship again next season, then they’d be decent signings. If their remit is to be progressing, then I’m not so sure about that.”
Meanwhile, Rovers-linked Kwame Poku is reportedly attracting Premier League interest following his departure from Peterborough United.
The 23-year-old winger has impressed in League One over the past few seasons and will become a free agent this summer.
Sunderland are the latest club linked with Poku following their victory against Sheffield United in the play-off final.
Earlier this month, Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony claimed as many as 30 clubs had expressed an interest in Poku on his Hard Truth Podcast.
