Derby County manager Paul Warne has delivered his verdict on new signing Lars-Jorgen Salvesen following his debut in the defeat to Sunderland on Tuesday.
The Norwegian striker arrived at Pride Park from Viking FK and the 28-year-old came off the bench for a 30-minute cameo that made quite the impression.
Salvesen’s display mightily impressed Warne, who explained to RamsTV how he is the perfect addition: “I thought Lars’s performance was excellent. This is why I have been saying for two-and-a-half years that we must have a focal point at the top of the pitch, someone who can win headers between the sticks.
“But we have to be careful because he has only done about three or four days of training. [Tonight] was obviously a risk but it was worth it because he’s looked after himself and is in good shape.”
It did end in defeat for the Rams, who have now lost five games in a row. They sit in 20th, one point above the relegation zone, with some huge games just around the corner.
Should they get out of this rut and return to winning ways, Salvesen will have a huge part to play. His goal scoring record in Norway speaks for itself, netting 12 times for Viking FK last season and 10 goals the year prior.
His goals will be needed more than ever this weekend, as Derby prepare for a huge game against fellow strugglers Cardiff City, who are just one point above them in the league. The game kicks off at 3pm on Saturday afternoon.
