Derby County Look At How The Last Day Of The Season Panned Out For Four Derby Loans

Derby County added 12 players to their squad last summer in a busy window ahead of a return to the Championship following promotion success the season before.

But while there were plenty of additions, there were a few departures on loan too, with Tyrese Fornah sealing a move to Salford City.

Sonny Bradley sealed a departure from Derby to Wycombe Wanderers in January as he looks to help the Chairboys achieve promotion. Max Bardell also made a move to join AFC Fylde while Tony Weston also joined Boston United on loan.

Here, Rams reporter Leigh Curtis has taken a look at how the final day of the season went for the quartet.

Tyrese Fornah

The midfielder suffered last-day heartbreak as Salford City just missed out on the playoffs in agonising fashion.

A win at relegated Carlisle would have guaranteed Karl Robinson’s side a top-seven finish and a crack at promotion to League One.

But the Cumbrians had not read the script and were 2-0 up and coasting as Salford saw their hopes start to go up in smoke.

However, Salford produced an inspired fightback to tie the game at 2-2, and with half an hour left to play, the Ammies attempted to find a winner.

But alas, it did not happen, and Salford had to settle for an eighth-place finish. On a personal note, it was a successful season for Fornah, who made 45 appearances in the north-west. With the midfielder widely tipped to leave Derby this summer, you would expect Salford to be among the clubs wanting to sign him.

Sonny Bradley

The centre-back has been on loan at Wycombe Wanderers, who saw the chance to secure an automatic promotion slot slip through their fingers.

Instead, the Chairboys have had to settle for a spot in the playoffs, and Bradley is now aiming to help drive them over the line and back into the Championship.

Bradley has won plenty of plaudits for his performances and has scored two goals in 17 appearances.

Wycombe don’t go into the playoffs in the best of form and have lost their last three games, which has meant they have stumbled over the line.

They will face Nathan Jones’ Charlton over two legs, and Bradley hopes to use his promotion experience with Luton and Derby to help them achieve their dream of being back in the second tier.

Tony Weston

The young striker had been on loan at Boston United, where he was part of an incredible story as the Pilgrims achieved survival against all the odds.

Boston had been in the bottom four for much of the season, but a brilliant run towards the end of the campaign ensured they remained in the fifth tier.

Weston did not feature much over the last few weeks with his last game coming back in April in a 3-2 defeat to Solihull Moors.

He was not involved at all for Boston’s last game of the season as they slipped to defeat at Maidenhead, a performance that did not please manager Graham Coughlan.

Max Bardell

The young defender was sent on loan to Fylde for the second half of the season having initially signed for ex-Derby coach Kevin Phillips.

He was eventually sacked as Fylde toiled at the bottom end of the table and the season has not finished in glory with the club having been relegated to the National League North.

Their campaign rounded off with a 3-0 defeat at home to Barnet, but Bardell, having played 25 games for Fylde this season, would have amassed valuable experience.
