Dawn Staley Makes Honest Admission About Chicago Sky Forward Reese

Despite having losing records over her first two seasons, Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese has still become one of the biggest stars in the WNBA.

In her rookie season, Reese averaged 13.6 points and a league-leading 13.1 rebounds per game. She also broke Candace Parker’s record for the most consecutive double-doubles.

But Reese has become a star outside of basketball, especially with her outfit game. The former LSU Tigers forward always grabs attention with her pregame fits and even graced the red carpet at the past two Met Galas in New York City.

Even with the success Reese has had in college and the WNBA, winning a national championship with LSU, she could never find success against Dawn Staley and the South Carolina Gamecocks. In four head-to-heads, Reese went 0-4 against Staley.

But there is one thing mentioned above that stands out to Staley. Making a guest appearance on Thursday’s episode of Sports Illustrated’s “Around the W,” Staley had nothing but praise for the Sky forward’s outfit game.

“Angel can actually almost pull (off) anything,” Staley said. “And she’s doing that.”

While Reese performed well during the 2024 season, she did not walk away with the WNBA Rookie of the Year award. That honor went to Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark, who led her team to the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

Still, in mid-July 2024, Staley had Reese winning Rookie of the Year over Clark.

“They (are) both having great years,” Staley said. “But if I had to pick a Rookie of the Year at this time… It’s Angel. Not a doubt. What she’s been able to do with the double-doubles.”

Reese and the Sky have fallen to 2-4 to begin 2025, but will have a shot at a third-straight win, facing the Fever on Saturday. Indiana will still be without Clark due to a quad strain.
