Danny Rohl Reveals His Decision On His Future Amid Sheffield Wednesday Exit

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Röhl has confirmed he has communicated his intentions for the future to the club hierarchy, though he insists now is not the time to publicly elaborate on his decision.

Speaking during pre-match media duties ahead of the Owls’ final home game of the season against Portsmouth, Röhl reflected on his 19-month tenure and revealed he had already held talks with chairman Dejphon Chansiri.

The 35-year-old German has earned widespread admiration during his time at Hillsborough, attracting interest from clubs across Europe, including Leicester City, RB Leipzig, and former club Southampton, where he previously worked under Ralph Hasenhüttl.

Danny Rohl has made his decision on Sheffield Wednesday future

“The chairman of the club knows my decision, the club knows what is in my mind,” Röhl told BBC Radio Sheffield on Friday afternoon.

“But I think today, tomorrow, is not the day to speak about this. It’s about after the season – we said this. We want to finish the season and then let’s see in which direction it goes. For me, it was very clear that the club knows it not too late what is in my mind.”

Röhl expressed pride in the team’s recent performance, particularly their win over Middlesbrough on Monday, which ended a six game winless run at home. Looking forward to the Owls’ final clash – an away tie against Watford, in which fixture Rohl took his first game in October 2023 – the manager was similarly ominous.

“From this point we carry on. I must say the players give me a big, big lift on Monday, I think it was really great to see how much we can invest and we are able to win against big teams in this league.”

“I think it was fantastic to see a good signal. I want to enjoy tomorrow the game, my family is here, my kids are here, and after tomorrow we have one more game in Watford. My first game was at Watford, and what it means, let’s see.”

He further elaborated on his position later in the press conference, telling The Sheffield Star’s Alex Miller:

“I think after 18, 19 months now I know how the club works, I know what we did in the last 18. 19 months.”

“I know what I can do, or what I could do in the future, and what is necessary for this – and these are all the things. Finally, these are a little bit the reasons that I put together.”

“I spoke with the club and now we will see in the final week, in the next days what it means, and what we can do what we cannot do – but for me it was important that I informed the club earlier what is in my mind.”

Details of Danny Röhl’s decision loom as Sheffield Wednesday crisis continues

As the season concludes, Danny Röhl’s future at Sheffield Wednesday hangs in the balance amid off-field turmoil.

The 35-year old has confirmed discussions with chairman Dejphon Chansiri regarding his intentions but remains tight-lipped about specifics until after the final matches.

His deliberations unravel against a backdrop of profound dysfunction – unpaid player wages, delayed tax bills, and escalating fan protests against Chansiri’s ownership.

Wins 34
Draws 17
Losses 36
Win percentage 39%
Points per game 1.4

Despite his evident pride in the team’s achievements, Röhl’s cryptic comments suggest he’s carefully weighing his options amid reported interest.

For many Owls supporters, already disillusioned by the administrative chaos, the prospect of losing their respected manager feels like an inevitable final blow in what has become a dour conclusion to the season at Hillsborough.

With his 19-month tenure potentially drawing to a close, the symmetry of potentially ending where he began – at Vicarage Road – adds a poignant dimension to this developing story.
