Batley reunion on the cards for Craig Lingard | Betfred Challenge Cup Sixth Round

The Tigers secured their fifth win of the season as they defeated London Broncos.

Castleford coach Craig Lingard lauded Innes Senior and Alex Mellor following their match-winning contributions to a 34-20 victory over Super League strugglers London Broncos. Senior and Mellor both scored two tries apiece as the Tigers claimed back-to-back wins for the first time this season against a bottom-of-the-table London side whose defensive struggles continued.

Ireland international Senior dazzled under the lights at Kuflink Stadium on his 100th senior appearance as the Broncos failed to deal with his power.

Lingard said: “He’s brought size, physicality, pace. He’s a specimen and it’s difficult to put him down. He can finish tries as well so the confidence he’s got playing every week and having that trust that even if he has a bad game we won’t pull him out straight away. Hopefully he can maintain that throughout the season.”

Castleford led 22-8 at half-time on the back of Senior’s brace and further tries from Tex Hoy and Mellor. Mellor added his second of the night after the break, with Rowan Milnes capping things off.

Mellor’s performance also caught the eye of coach Lingard, who called for the centre to carry the ball even more after his dominant display in midfield. He said: “I want him to run with the ball more because he’s a real danger, he’s had niggles and played tough when he shouldn’t of been playing which affected his running game. The tries today were instrumental so I’m pleased.”
