Castleford Tigers Set Sights on established Super League Prop

On another level' - Leigh coach hails in-form prop after impressive 72-minute stint

Castleford Tigers have turned their attention toward bolstering their forward pack for next season, with Leigh Leopards prop Robbie Mulhern emerging as a prime recruitment target. The Tigers, who have made no secret of their desire to add size, aggression, and experience to their middle unit, believe Mulhern fits the profile of a player capable of transforming their go-forward and giving the squad a much-needed injection of consistency.

Mulhern, now an established Super League front-rower with a decade of top-flight experience, has built a reputation for his relentless work rate, powerful carries, and ability to churn out big defensive minutes. Since joining Leigh, he has been one of the Leopards’ most dependable performers, standing out during their impressive 2023 Challenge Cup triumph and maintaining high standards through their subsequent league campaigns.

For Castleford, the need to strengthen up front has become increasingly evident. Despite possessing several promising young forwards, the Tigers have struggled at times to match the physicality of Super League’s top packs. Head coach Craig Lingard has spoken openly about reshaping the squad’s spine and middle-third, and Mulhern’s name has been circulating strongly within recruitment circles.

A move for Mulhern would signal a continuation of Castleford’s strategy of targeting experienced Super League operators who can influence standards on and off the field. His leadership qualities have been praised at every club he has represented, including Hull KR and Warrington Wolves, and the Tigers see him as a figure who can help guide their developing forwards while providing immediate impact.

Leigh, however, are unlikely to let the prop go without a fight. Adrian Lam and the club’s hierarchy remain intent on keeping the core of their pack intact, especially as they continue to build toward sustained top-six ambitions. Mulhern has been a central figure in Leigh’s forward rotation, and replacing his physical presence would be no easy task.

The Leopards have already faced interest in several of their stars following their surge in competitiveness since 2023, and Mulhern’s future could become another key storyline in the club’s retention efforts. With the prop approaching the peak years of his career, any potential move will likely require a compelling offer from Castleford—both financially and in terms of long-term vision.

For Tigers supporters, the possibility of Mulhern’s arrival has been met with optimism. His proven durability and consistent output are qualities Castleford have sorely lacked at times over recent seasons. While negotiations remain at a preliminary stage, sources suggest the Tigers are determined to push hard in their bid to secure a forward capable of anchoring their pack for years to come.

Should Castleford succeed, Mulhern would instantly become one of the cornerstones of their rebuild. For now, the situation remains fluid, but the Tigers’ interest reflects their ambition to return to the upper reaches of the Super League table—and Mulhern may well be the player to help them get there.
