Ryan Carr: Castleford Tigers appoint new Australian head coach - BBC Sport

Castleford Tigers’ head coach Ryan Carr has delivered a passionate endorsement of the club’s home ground, insisting it stands comparison with any stadium in the game. Speaking about the importance of the Tigers’ base, Carr praised both the facilities and the unique atmosphere generated by the club’s supporters, describing it as a venue that gives Castleford a genuine edge.

The Jungle has long been regarded as one of rugby league’s most atmospheric grounds, famed for its tight dimensions and vocal fanbase. Carr believes those qualities make it a daunting place for visiting teams and a source of pride for players pulling on the black and amber jersey.

“Our ground rivals any other,” Carr said. “There’s a real connection between the players and the supporters here. When the place is full and the crowd gets going, it’s incredibly difficult for opposition teams to come and play their best rugby.”

Carr also highlighted the improvements made behind the scenes in recent seasons, pointing to upgraded training and matchday facilities as evidence of the club’s ambition. He stressed that Castleford may not boast the biggest stadium in Super League, but what it lacks in size it more than compensates for in character and intensity.

“It’s not about having the biggest stands or the flashiest exterior,” he explained. “It’s about creating an environment where players feel at home and supporters feel part of something special. We have that here.”

The Tigers coach believes the ground plays a vital role in developing younger players, helping them understand what it means to represent Castleford. Running out in front of a passionate home crowd, Carr says, instils accountability and pride that can shape careers.

As Castleford continue to rebuild and push for consistency on the field, Carr is convinced their home base will remain a cornerstone of progress. He sees the ground not just as a place to play rugby, but as a symbol of the club’s identity and resilience.

“With the history this club has and the people who support it week in, week out, this ground is special,” Carr added. “It’s something we want to protect and use as a real strength moving forward.”
