Wigan Warriors, Castleford Tigers stars in Super League Team of the Week

Castleford Tigers have confirmed that one of their prop forwards has been handed an immediate release in order to seek a move elsewhere.

The Tigers are entering a new era characterised by both their 100-year anniversary as well as incoming head coach Ryan Carr and that’s seen plenty of changes to the squad.

Former captain Sam Wood was previously handed a release to seek opportunities elsewhere as well as outside back Innes Senior with recruitment having previously focused on those positions as NRL backs Mikaele Ravalawa and Semi Valemei were both signed.

The Tigers have recruited plenty already with a big focus on their pack, as evidenced by the signings of Hull FC pair Jordan Lane and Jack Ashworth, as well as Wakefield’s Renouf Atoni.

They’ve also brought in Brock Greacen from Newcastle Knights and with so many bodies arriving, the opportunity for game time becomes harder and that’s resulted in the release of Muizz Mustapha.

Muizz Mustapha leaves Castleford Tigers

Despite being contracted until the end of the 2027 season having signed a new deal in late 2023, Mustapha has been released from his Castleford Tigers contract so that he can seek opportunities elsewhere.

Mustapha signed at Wheldon Road in 2023 with the former Leeds Rhinos man going on to make 45 appearances for the club with 17 of those coming in 2025.

Finishing the season strong, Mustapha scored one of Castleford’s tries of the season in their round 26 loss to Wigan Warriors as he broke from 40 metres out and raced away under the sticks.

The 25-year-old now leaves to seek a deal elsewhere with the Nigerian international’s exit confirmed by the club on social media.

A short statement read: “Castleford Tigers can confirm that Muizz Mustapha has been released from the remainder of his contract to pursue playing opportunities elsewhere.

“We wish Muizz all the best for the future and thank him for his service to Castleford Tigers.”
