Aston Villa defender Lino Sousa has suffered an injury setback during his loan spell away with Bristol Rovers. Full-back Sousa only joined Villa last January from Arsenal and was immediately loaned out to Championship side Plymouth Argyle.
This year he is spending his campaign at a level lower, in League One with the Gas, who are under the management of Matt Taylor. Sousa has played ten matches this season and collected an assist in a 3-2 defeat to Peterborough United back in September.
The versatile defender, who has played on both sides of the back-line and a little further up the pitch, too, has suffered a hamstring injury in training, however, and will be out for the next month at least – beginning with last Saturday’s draw with Crawley Town.
“We’ve actually lost Lino this week. He’s damaged his hamstring,” Taylor told BristolLive. “A minimum of a month [out]. It’s just a hamstring. [A] small tear in training. Pitches are changing a little bit. [It] wasn’t from a running mechanism, just a slip, which is strange for a muscle injury, but yeah, it’s a shame because you want everyone fit and available but that happens.”
Sousa is one of a host of young players out on loan away from Villa this season; Kaine Kesler-Hayden and Lewis Dobbin are in the Championship, while Louie Barry is also in League One and has been tearing it up at Stockport County.
