Haas Wins Record Sixth Paul Morgan Medal | Broncos

Payne Haas has won a historic sixth Paul Morgan Medal in seven seasons after he was crowned Broncos NRL Player of the Year at Thursday’s Presentation Ball at The Star, Brisbane.

Haas – who won the award consecutively from 2019 to 2023 – has surpassed Broncos great, Allan Langer, to become the only Bronco to win the award six times.

The 25-year-old played 24-games in 2025 and averaged 166 run metres (67 metres post contact) from almost 16 hit ups per game, as well as 35 tackles at 98 per cent efficiency.

Haas also had 130 tackle busts and 70 offloads which saw him awarded the Shane Webcke Award for Best Forward and Gary Balkin Award for Players’ Player.

Mid-season recruit, Ben Talty won the Cyril Connell Award for Rookie of the Year in his debut season in the NRL.

The 26-year-old New South Wales Cup product signed with the Club on a train and trial deal in June and made his debut just a few weeks later against the Bulldogs.

He went on to play ten NRL games and was recently upgraded to a two-year contract extension with the top 30 squad, through to 2027.

Pat Carrigan was recognised for his reliability in the 2025 season and claimed the Kevin Walters Award for the Most Consistent Player.

In his 25 games this season, Carrigan averaged 157 run metres, made 37 tackles per game, had 32 tackle breaks and 30 offloads.

The Allan Langer Award for Best Back went to both Reece Walsh and Kotoni Staggs.

Despite missing games at the start of the season due to injury, Walsh scored 14 tries, had 26 try assists and 113 tackle breaks in 21 appearances this season.

He was instrumental in the Broncos finals campaign, and his standout performance in the Grand Final victory over the Melbourne Storm saw him awarded the Clive Churchill Medal as player of the final.

Meanwhile, Staggs averaged 138 tun metres, scored 12 tries, had 113 tackle breaks and 26 line breaks in a consistent season which saw him named in the Australian Kangaroos squad.

Ben Hunt was awarded the Wally Lewis Award for Play of the Year for his field goal in golden point during the Qualifying Final victory against the Canberra Raiders.

Broncos Clubperson of the Year was awarded to NRL squad member, Delouise Hoeter, who drives the Club’s culture, mentors younger players, helps with affiliates, and always goes above and beyond for the Broncos.

Jock Madden was also recognised for his Ken Stephen award nomination, for his voluntary work in the community.
